By the time the Matron mothers came to wake me up i had slept peacefully for a few hours. The loud crooning voice was like nails on a chalk bored to me so i got up and opened the door to shut her up. She told me to get ready for classes like she always told me as though i was stupid and incapable of indepdent thinking.
Pulling my clothes on i growled and fumed over the old woman who hated me because when i first came to the school i had gotten into a fight with her little pet of a b***h Assenly. Once dressed in my clean school outfit i walked out into the hall and followed the throngs of guys going to the messhall. All of the students where clad in dark blue tunics with undershirts of a deep lovely yellow with pants that matched the tops. Long and dark blue with yellow embroidery along the sides of the pants. The blue tops had yellow/gold and other colored embroidery along the sleeves, neck, and hem while the yellow shirt sometimes had embroidery.
Once in the messhall i got my food before sitting down at the table with the least girls possible and was soon crowded by the guys that knew me and liked me. Loud chatter started up with me and the guys as we took food the others did not like or couldn't eat at the moment. We were all like family but suddenly a matron mother stood up on the dias where they watched over us when we ate or used this room for any purpose.
"Attention." she said in a soft voice, this was the younger matron mother that still had humor and a nice voice. Everyone went quiet making the older woman snarl unhappily at how easily she had won over a majority of the students.
"We..." she continued "Have the delight of having the summer dragons come to our town and roost for awhile, talk is that they have a young female dragon wanting to give out a egg to someone who will take it, now when the dragons get here you will leave them alone for a few days before harassing them with your wild banter." She turned and looked at the rows of students. "That is all." she then sat down and everyone erupted in wild chatter about the dragons coming, i could hear the girls over the guys about how they would dress up for the dragons while the guys talked about being able to ride them possibly or getting the egg and becoming a dragon tamer or a number of other jobs that came when you where taken on by a dragon.
The next few days where spent in a wild flurry as news kept coming about the dragons from the nearby towns and the kids around me grew more and more giddy and the day the dragons came the matrons allowed the students a few days off in celebrations.
I had nothing to celebrate so i took my time to study and catch up before i was dragged out of my room by my friends when the dragons had rested enough and allowed people to come see the egg.
Slowly people of all ages young and old bowed deeply to the dragons but i refused to bow before a reptile no matter how powerful. The biggest dragon was a deep blue color with eyes that matched she was huge almost the size of a large hill. She gazed at me curiosly before i tilted my head in a slight nod and she seemed pleased by this. Slowly the dragon walked over with a deep earth quaking thud each time her clawed feet struck the ground causing people to part like the red sea for the dragon. The saphire dragon sat on it's haunches before laying down completly to look me over with a deep blue eye.
"small one..." the dragon purred softly into my mind and i winced before trying to block her out. "calm your self hatchling, i mean no harm to you. But please if you would be so kind as to scratch my scales under my eye...They itch terribly."
I blinked at the dragon before sighing. "Sure, why not." I reached out and started to rake my hands across the dragons hide rubbing away dirt, old blood from kills, and a few bugs. A great sigh of relife left the dragon before i felt a sharp pain in my hand and looked down to see a bug of enourmes mass holding onto my hand and i yelped pulling it from it's burrow of dragon scales and started to stomp it into the ground yelping. A loud sigh of happyness came from the dragon before she scratched the dead scales away and pushed the infected skin away.
I retched onto the carcass before a few people pulled me away from the dragon begging apology for my rude behavior. I said nothing and left to go lay down in my room in silence.
I slept for the rest of day letting my body adjust and calm from the dragons odd greetings
By the next morning i was well enough to get my hand looked at by the local doctor. She lanced it open pulling out the venom from the bug bite before putting a thick coating of anti biotics on it and bandaging it before sending me away. The dragons roamed around the town causing a lot of uproar from the kids and younger adults while i was just likeing the colors of the giant beasts. Slowly a woman grabbed my injured hand and howled into the air like a wolf causing me to jump from the pain and being startled so bad. She started to rant about me being a chosen dragon child but i pulled away and ran before she could tell me anymore.
I ran out of town and into the forests where the dragons where, the dragoness that had laid an egg watched me curiosly from her nesting spot before standing up and sauntering over to me. Child, please come touch my egg.... I have seen many touch it but none as odd as you..." The dragoness was green with bright eyes.
"Whats so odd about me?" i asked in a slight hiss.
You did not bow to Sadaria, the saphire dragoness that is our leader. That is odd enough my child. Quickly a pink tounge darted from the dragons maw and licked me gently across my cheek revealing a mark i had long tryed to hide.
Wincing i looked away before she pushed me toward the makeshift nest and made sure i touched each and every egg till one of them squwaked from inside of the egg and started to hatch. Frightened i pulled my hand back from the deep black egg with dark green streaks going threw it. The dragoness roared with delight as the hatchling poked it's head out and looked at me with one green eye before turning and showing me a black eye that caused me to stare. Slowly reaching out i touched the dragon a sharp pain raced up my arm to my chest where i stopped. I looked down at my palm and saw a odd mark that resembled a dragons claws. slowly the chirp of the dragon caught myattention as it climbed into my lap and warmed my legs up greatly.
The mother was suddenly gone and so was the remaining eggs as i stood up and held the small black and green dragon to my chest loving how warm it was against my skin. My heart jumped again and again as i felt the dragons mind press against mine and linked to mine. A emotion of love and safety radiated threw the connection and i returned it gently as i let my hands go over the small body.
I HAVE A DRAGON! I shouted to my self mentaly as i bounced around happily feeling the dragons delight at being bounced.
