School... or something like it
I know I'm not a frequent poster, but usually what I put in here is either one of three things:
1) Extremely funny, involving a dose of insanity.
2) Extremely stupid, usually when I get caffiene.
3) A very logical look at teh world around me, which is usually so depressing, its funny.
This next entry is the third one.
It involves another trip to my school, which is usually something people don't want to discuss, but damnit, I do.
Ahem.
School is supposed to be a place of education, a place of security for students and faculty that teaches us. Now we can be optomistic and say it should be a fun place too, but even a public edjumacated stoodent lyke meslf nose beter thn tat. School can be interesting none-the-less, and by golly, mine has to be interestingly boring, yet with a touch of infallacy that even I cannot replicate.
Our school has seven periods during the day. This changed from six last year. I automatically exclude the "earlybird" period, since nobody really wants to go to school at six in the morning. We had normal classes last year, each lasting 50 minutes long, with our 4th hour lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes. Teh fourth hour was actually 2 hours long, but due to lunch, we had only 1.5 hours to do something in. It actually flowed well, unless you were stuck in a really bad class, but people even then usually got their homework done and played football or hackysac in the classroom.
This year we have seven classes. Our lunches, all seven of them, whereas there was only four last year, are all split over three periods. To put this into perspective, we have people going to lunch at 9:30 in the morning. Unless you're like me, and unlucky as hell, you might actually get lunch before 1 pm. Dont' ask me how they manage it.
Not only that, being a senior, i get out of class one period early. I get out right after lunch, to be precise. However, why not skip lunch? Because we have to check in, and they won't let us check out till after lunch is over. I though school was a supportive environment, not Alcatraz prison complex.
In spite of this, I tried to go to the library, which was an acceptable alternative to the crowded, noisy lunchroom. But alas, my efforts were thwarted again! Only allowed to the bathroom I was, as I was nearly dragged back into the lunchroom by an armed guard. Yes, occifer, I was a teenage booknerd.
Hopefully, my birthday will prove to be more enjoyable than lunch. Which leads me to another odd and clumsy piece of folly. Our daily announcements, which were originally broadcasted over the intercom, all at once, three times a day (different notices), worked out fine, since everyone heard them at once. Now, in a vain attempt to keep up with the lunch schedule, they broadcast the same newscast seven times in a row. The Pledge of Alliegence is broadcasted separately, though. If that wasn't enough, they do it on television, and suprizingly forgot that some rooms, like mine, don't have a TV. So that leads us to wonder why some people miss important meetings for clubs and sports and why others don't? I still personally wonder why we had to make it visual. I mean, the announcers are still butt-ass ugly...
Now I could go on all day, about how we are trying to fit three thousand some students into a school, built in 1909, with a capacity for only twelve hundred bodies. Or I could go on about the average class size of thirty-four students per teacher. Or, should I delve into the fact that the school had a hundred and ten acres willed to them to use to build a new school, and instead, they decide to build a sports complex, which won't finish completion until 2011, but I dont' want to overstep my bounds.
You may find yourself in two different situations. You will either appreciate this, or you will not. If you appreciate this, then give me your name and address, so i can find you and kill you. I hate democrats. If you are the latter, which is probably what most of you are, be thankful that you are in a better school system. Of course, that may not mean much when in comparison.
You can also thank god that I'm at the end of my rant, instead of going on about how the surrounding schools have enacted dress codes for school, after putting it up to a vote, and passing teh bill, only to find that one kid's parents wants him to dress like a goth and now is suing the school board for nine million dollars for trying to suppress the freedom of speach, even though its perfectly legal action for the school.
I better quit now. There's got to be a bar around here somewhere that will take a fake Id... |
