Quote: The heat of the summer is slowing beginning to lose it's hold on the night. What were once humid nights, are becoming more crisp. That bite in the air gives a welcome reprieve from those scorching days. What's even better about the night is the Meteor shower that graces the lands every time in August. Some nights you may see a sky full and other nights maybe one or two. Are you an avid stargazer? Maybe you're new and this is your first time, or maybe you don't really like to stay up once the sun goes down. Either way we want to know what you think about the meteor shower and if they stay up or not to watch them.

When had Spring come and gone? It felt all too quick for the mare -- Summer was already nearing its own end now. Had she lost track of the days? Of the seasons? Or had it all just been one weird blur that blended together in the blink of an eye?
Nonetheless, the time had come for some meteor showers to grace the skies.
Zahra had made her way to an island of sorts. One she had never been to before. Taking careful flight with her companions in tow, the elegant mare landed with grace and allowed her companions to safely set foot onto the land that was new to them.
"Melina, Little Darling, Sakura and my butterflies ~ Ah! All accounted for. Wonderful ~" She remarked with a gentle smile.
"I do so wonder how glorious the meteor shower will look when nightfall comes. I am excited to see how many we may spot tonight."
"Yeah, the last few nights we only saw a few. I'd like to see more !" Came an excited chime in from Melina as she zipped around her friends head.
This got a giggle from Zahra. "I cannot wait. Come, let us explore a bit before then, yes?"

The small island where the group had landed may look deserted, but it so happened to be the home of a solitary Kelpi. Said Kelpi was at this moment, swimming in the reefs surrounding his home, his coloring easily helping him to blend into the natural rocks and corals. He had sort of noticed the recent meteor showers, but he tended to keep his mind on more practical things. Such as food for himself, and also the smaller creatures that called the island home.
He had found this place some years ago, and decided that its beauty should be nurtured and protected. Now all the animals knew him by sight and scent and usually didn't run from him, especially once he had started bringing them what he discovered were their favorite foods.
Turning back toward the shore, he was startled to hear voices when he poked his head out of the waters. Immediately, he ducked back down a bit to hide and tried to listen. Who dared invade his home?! What if they destroyed something, or even hurt one of the animals?! This would absolutely not do. He'd never had anyone else find this place, but his mind was full of wild theories, and he was determined to defend his home.
Ducking back into the water, he stayed as low as possible, only emerging onto the beach behind a clump of bushes. He set his hooves carefully, then charged out of cover with a challenging, wordless, scream. Then he stopped, glaring at the intruder (not even noticing the animals she had brought with her). "What are you doing here?" he demanded, looking fully ready to fight if he had to.

Who wouldn't be startled by a charge and a scream? Well, there were some who would probably be able to face such a thing without much of a reaction. But Zahra Nope!
With a startled neigh, she was quick to wrap her tail around her deer, Little Darling, first and foremost - Whom of which had definitely been scared by this action and took great comfort hiding in that tail as best as she could.
"HEY NOW!" Zahra gave a huff before looking for Sakura and Melina. Once the two beloved companions were spotted and accounted for, she looks back to the stallion who had dared to scare them.
Her look was stern. Annoyed, even. "You scared my friends !" A huff from her nostrils.
"Especially Little Darling! She's easy to startle !"
Of course her attention was more on the fact her little friends had been startled rather than herself.
"I was not startled too much, Zahra." Sakura chimes in with a lax smile upon their face before giving a stretch and yawn.
"Ah -- Yes. Well. Good to know but STILL - Little Darling is absolutely scared to bits ! I think someone owes all of you a big apology if you ask me !"

The stallion froze at the intruders words. Scared her friends?! What friends....... Wait. Oh, oh no, NOW he saw the other animals around her, at least one of which did look fairly terrified now. Tawhiri immediately felt guilt sweep through him like the tides. He hung his head down in shame. "Oh. I, Uhm.... I didn't see them there..." he admitted quietly. Not much of an apology, but at least it was something?
He glanced up slightly at her animal friends, feeling a bit envious. He'd seen others with small companions during his wanderings before finding his island home. And he had always sort of... Wanted one of his own. But he had no clue how to go about such a thing. The other animals on the island weren't necessarily scared of him by this point, but none of them seemed to want to stick around, either.

He had failed to see them? Zahra puffed her cheeks out at that line.
Though such a look only made Melina giggle and flutter over to poke a cheek very gently with her beak. "Zahra, darling, that's such a funny look on you ~ Were you trying to look scary? Or mad?"
"Mad ! Scary ! Ferocious !" Zahra would reply before puffing her cheeks up once more, giving the same 'stern' look to the stallion before them all.
Once more the little bird like creature giggles. "Oh hun, darling -- that is not scary one bit you know. Goodness, goodness!" Now Melina fluttered over to Tawhiri. "She looks more cute than scary, would you not agree?"
"Heeeeeyyyy!" A huff now as Zahra made her way over to the two of them as Sakura stayed back with Little Darling. "I am very scary when I am mad ! Like I am right now. Scary, mad and angry !"
"Mad and angry are essentially the same thing darling ~"
"Melinaaaaaa!" She whined out now while giving a playful swat to the little companion teasing her. "I'm scary, right stranger? Terrifying, even, right?"
The small bird companion tried to remain silent as they both awaited an answer from the other.

Tawhiri stared at the group while all this back and forth was happening. He hadn't been around so many others just talking and interacting in so long, that it was almost overwhelming. So, it took him a moment or two to even realize she asked him a question.
He blinked at her, trying to figure out if he should be truthful or not. Finally, he ducked his head a little. "Nnnooottt really, I have to say," he confessed. "But I'm certain you could be!! M-maybe."

There is a pout on her muzzle now. Zahra plops down on her hear and wraps her tail around herself.
"I COULD be? Maybe? Oh I definitely can be -!" But her cute little pout really says otherwise at this very moment.
"Could be, maybe ~! Is what he said darling ~" Melina reinforces with a little giggle ! "You keep trying to appear so, so, scary! Buuuuuut it is not really working, you know ~" Though now the little birds attention turns back to the stallion.
"You have heard all of our names by now, sir. Might we learn what your name may be?"

Said stallion couldn't help but smile, just a bit, at her antics. He got the feeling that she wasn't really incredibly offended. And the pure facts were that he was right - she wasn't actually all that scary right now.
His gaze was drawn again to her animal companions, especially the talkative little bird. He blinked at Melina's words, suddenly recalling that manners were a thing. "Oh! I apologize, I've been by myself so long... I seem to have forgotten how meeting someone new is meant to work. I am Tawhiri." He introduced himself with a little bob of his head. "I have a question, actually... how did you all meet? Part of me has always wanted to find a small companion of my own... but the other animals here all seem too shy."

"Pleasure meeting you Tawhiri~" Melina gives a nod before zipping back over to Zahra so that she may rest upon one of the little branch antlers on her head.
A little huff! Looks like she really would not be deemed scary this time.
"How we all met? Well - Butterflies seem to come and go and their leisure. Little Darling and I met during one of my walks. I had stopped to help her and we sorta just decided to stick together." A gentle nudge to the little deer companion in question.
"Melina and I crossed paths one day when she needed somewhere to rest. She sometimes goes off on her own when she so pleases. But she always finds her way back to me." A nod up to the little bird on the branch antler.
"Then Sakura here just so happened t help Little Darling one day when she had wondered too far from me. They became good friends, and Sakura decided to tag along for good - Though at times Sakura does go off alone. Thought Little Darling usually dislikes when that happens." The fox in question gives a little wave.
"Shy? Well, maybe I can try to talk to some of them? I'm usually really good with and in tune with nature, truly." A smile ! "Nature is my absolute favorite thing in the whole world. Could not live without~"

Tawhiri listened with fascination to all of the stories about how she met her friends. Maybe... He just hadn't done enough exploring before coming here to live. Even if the animals here seemed to not like him, somewhere out there, surely there was one who would? After all, she had so many friends!
He looked a bit surprised by her offer to talk with the animals on the island for him, but soon nodded enthusiasticly. "If you would be willing to do that, I would be grateful! Maybe..." He paused, and gave her a sly grin, "Maybe I'm just too scary??"

At that little joke, she gave a playful roll of her eyes. "Oh, perhaps so ! Maybe you are just too scary for the animals here ~! They may just cower and run in fear of you, good Sir Tawhiri, sir!"
Though she glanced to the sky, then back to Tawhiri. "Come, lead me to some animals for me to speak to. We still have time before the sun sets and the meteor showers begin. I wish to see it~!"
-Planned lil time skip-
Zahra and her friends had followed Tawhiri around a bit talking to some of the animals of the island and working to warm them up to the stallion. Time slipped by oh so easily when one was busy talking to the glorious wildlife. Once Zahra had realized how late it had been getting, there was a gasp !
"Oh, the meteor showers ! They should be starting soon. Tawhiri, you will join us yes? It will be most spectacular to witness together I am sure ~!" An elated sway of her tail at the thought. "After all, I originally ventured out here in hopes of finding a good spot to watch them. We just so happened to stumble upon you by pure luck, new friend !"

Tawhiri quite enjoyed showing the mare and her friends around the island, pointing out interesting things here and there, like a spot where some colorful flowers grew. It did seem like some of the animals were a bit less shy of him after Zahra talking to them - though none seemed inclined to stay with him. Still, it was something! He would just have to keep his hopes up.
Once night started falling, and she suggested watching the meteor shower, he nodded happily. "I would love to watch it with all of you! In fact, there is a spot that should be perfect... No animals really live there, which is why we didn't go until now but. Follow me!"
He turned back to the beach, then made his way to a small path that wound between thick bushes and eventually climbed up to the top of a cliff overlooking the water. It was beaten and a bit windy, but the weather was nice enough that wasn't really an issue. And the view of the sky from up here was completely clear of any obstructions.

"Lead the way!" Zahra exclaimed with excitement.
The little group of friends happily followed the stallion, Zahra looking about in awe. It felt as though they just may have seen this whole island all in one day. Such a silly little thought.
Once to the cliff, she gave a gasp of joy before allowing herself to float off of the ledge a bit to give a good look to the area below before looking up above her in excitement ! A giddy little twirl in the air before landing back down onto the ground, her tail giving such an excited sway.
"This is a wonderful spot! Thank you, Tawhiri! For showing us all around AND showing us such a gorgeous spot to watch the meteor shower~"

Tawhiri ducked his head a little bit in embarrassment at all the praise she was giving him. It wasn't that big of a deal, this was just his home! But he didn't protest out loud, just watching her twirl in the sky with a bit of wonder. What would it be like to fly....?
Shaking his head to dislodge silly thoughts of asking him to carry him up there to find out, he replied "I think it's about to start..." Pointing his nose toward the heavens, he smiled as the first few meteors streaked by - their lights reflected in the waters below.
