A Jog
This place where I reside,
Is disgusting;
Trees with eyes won't
Look away,
And those cracks in the pavement
Sneer at me
Smile sick smiles,
I am done.
I run
Plastering my heart unto the sidewalk.
I take an alleyway
And I sew my soul into the neglected ground.
I reach another street,
I take another alley,
And I twist through several more,
And another,
And another,
Snaking my way through suburbs,
Until those suburbs run out.
There is only a road.
I keep running.
Side walk,
No side walk,
Pavement,
Gravel,
Dirt,
Nothing.
I find myself
Alone,
Nothing before me but an audience of
Golden prairie,
And an ocean of sapphire sky.
I am the richest person alive.
Silence instills.
The vultures are no longer present.
Nothing moves
And my breaths become faint,
Carving themselves into this world,
And then fading away.
I have weaved myself
Into a magnificent place.
I run and walk back;
Slowly,
Calmly,
To once again
Find my
Heartbeat.
