• Twas The Day Before Christmas

    Twas the day before Christmas
    and all through the town
    driveway had been shoveled
    and roads had been plowed
    for people were waking
it was time to be out and around.

    The news of the morning
    the forecaster reads on
now heres the weather you've waited to hear
Record low temperatures say 30 below
an over night storm dropped 12 inches of snow.

The air is so cold it
    freezes your breath
    The land how it glitters
    the trees how they shine
    a wonderland winter
    of Cypress and pine.

    The days have grown shorter
    the nights have grown long
the wind thru the willows blows constant and strong
As the first rays of dawn
    light up the sky
    we rise from our beds
    time to rise and shine.

    Mama's up early
    to see us all fed
then off to our chores we go with a bound
without a complaint or nary a sound.

    When everything is finished
    and done for the day
the young ones are off to frolick and play.

Something is missing our settings incomplete
Papa smiles so big, what we need is a tree
So with axes in hand and purpose in stride we're off to the woods
    to seek out a pine.
For Christmas is coming and soon will be here
the tree must be perfect he says with good cheer.

    We chop and we hack
    and sing as we go
then down to the ground the tree falls to the snow.

    Now back to the house
    we go in a hurry
as snow starts to fall with a fluttering flury.

Up with the tree and on with the lights
toss on some tinsel and other delights
a star for the tree top and then it is done
for the clock has struck midnight and Christmas has come.

With voice a twitter and eyes all alight
it's up to their beds as the house settles down.

The children are all warm snug in their beds as
visions of Christmas dance in their heads

Then with a jingle he comes with flare
a jolly old elf and 8 tiny reindeer

on Dasher, now Dancer on Prancer and Vixen
on Comet, now Cupid, on Donder and Blitzen
    the little elf laughed
over the tree tops and hill tops they came with a bound
from snow covered roof tops to snow covered grounds

    Down thru the chimney
    he came with a flurish
the little old elf a whirling dervish

    He layed out the presents
    and partook of some treats
    then off again off again
    he went with a leap

    Then out on the lawn
ere they rose out of sight
    Merry Christmas to all
and to all a good night.
