If I could be a bird, I would,
I’d fly so high and see the world,
I’d fly so far away from here,
And find a place of happiness.
If I could be a cat, I would,
I’d be so elegant and bliss,
I’d also be a sly trickster,
And roam around so casually.
If I could be a rat, I would,
I’d sneak around such small places,
I’d see the world as something huge,
And discover things I could not now.
If I could be a horse, I would,
I’d canter through the open fields,
I’d find my herd and run with them,
And live a life with my freedom.
If I could be the snow, I would,
I’d fall to earth so gracefully,
I’d be so pure and white and cold,
And melt away as easily.
If only I could be another,
Someone else, or something else,
If only I were not myself,
I wouldn’t be so disgraceful.
But sadly this is not to be,
As I am me, unchangeable,
And fate is firmly sealed for me,
So I will always be myself.
I will not try to deny it,
I hold no pride in that I am,
This dreadful sullen child yet,
Will dream forever, by itself.
