- Title: Mari Yaguchi Sketch
- Artist: Twist of Fate AKA Rosa
-
Description:
This is one of my recent sketches, I barely finished it yesterday. This is my sketch on one of my favorite ex member from Morning Musume, Mari Yaguchi. I know it looks a little weird but at least I got the hair right, hopefully. Sorry if I did a bad job lol, ENJOY!

- I wouldn't want to be obnoxious here and give my own examples of what I've learned personally, but if you'd like you can PM me and I'd be happy to show you, and of course other artists who have quite successfully rendered such a thing.

- Lips are sort of a sunburst application of shading with light reflecting off of the embossed portions. As for hair, in a more realistic style it's layered. Since the person you drew has blond hair, it gets tricky. What I tend to do is give a medium-tone base, then erase out highlighted areas to imply a lighter tone and an intense light. Then, somewhat emphasize shadows in the hair in certain spots (referencing the photo is definite help here) to give the almost metallic feel of blond hair.

- Since I'm guessing you were going for a somewhat realistic look, I'll give you the advice that opened profound doors for myself and my own realism: Avoid using lines. Lines will ultimately cartoonize the drawing. Instead, imply line with shading and highlights, as it would be in reality. This would also help with the lips, I'd believe.

- Lips are always jerks. Thats probably the hardest thing to draw next to ears, lips :/ Nonetheless I love how your shading gave a watercolor feel after a good look at it. Good job
